Spiderwick is pretty much a children or young teen's game. Although it is still OK for adults to play if you really-really wanted to just relax and face no difficulties or puzzles or riddles or dares or challenges, just play...(I get bored after 30 minutes).
The graphics are OK, although there are lots of things that are not accessible in the game. And the way the main character jump is totally weird, if that is what you call 'a jump'! I called it 'a slide' or perhaps 'toppled off'. The instructions are pretty much clear on how to finish each task since it is written clearly on the guide book or the journal in your game world. The book completely tells me EVERYTHING! Even tells me where to find certain objects to complete the task.
It is more like a hit and run action adventure. With the monsters in it and stuff, this game is good and playable for children from age 10- 14. Maximum age is 14 in my opinion, because older than that, he or she will get bored really fast. The age that i set in here is not the age rating to be able to play the game, but the age range where gamers within these age will think that this is a good playable game. The age rating itself for this game is 10 and up . Which means everyone above 10 can play.
If only they made this game a little bit more interesting and challenging, then perhaps they can get a wider age range, thus making this game sells better! They should have think before making the game that their target should captured at least 10 years of age range.
People between 10-14 years old do not have much choice in buying a game. Usually, either their parents have to buy it for them, or if lucky, they have enough pocket money to buy it themselves, but that is only if the game is REALLY interesting that kids are willing to take out their savings for it, such as Final Fantasy 7 or Elder Scroll, or other amazing games.
If not, then i bet the sales went pretty bad. They should be grateful enough if they can get at least a little bit of revenue from ALL the TOTAL COST of production.
Making games especially for children are different. These type of games must be apparent that they are for children and usually consisted of education elements inside it so the parents will buy it without any doubt knowing that these games are good for their child, because not only they educate the child but it's also fun!
Spiderwick is different, not only from the age range point of view, this is not entirely a children game but not entirely an adult game as well, this game is almost stuck in between. And does not have any educational element in it. It even contained some animated violence which made parents more doubtful in purchasing it for their children. How many 14 years old have at least 30 euros in their pocket to buy a PC game of their own?
This has to be seriously considered before making a game.
The audio is not bad, they used the real voice of the real actor and actress from the Spiderwick: the movie.
It's just that i don't really like the voice of the older sister. It sounded like she is partly screaming every time she opens her mouth to speak. Even though there are nothing happening, but she is still partly screaming. She got this high shrill voice that is very annoying.
So i suggest this game is good if you wanted to buy a present for a child between 10-14, after their final tests, during the holidays, yeah, a good game. But not for yourself... ...
...please...
Ck ck What a waste of beautiful art...
